Cyber-Trust is co-organiser of the Mediterranean Security Event 2019. MSE2019, chaired by the Center for Security Studies (KEMEA) of the Greek Ministry of Citizen Protection, is the largest event of the year, which is collaboratively organized by the community of Security R&D stakeholders in the European Union. The event takes place in Crete at the Fodele Beach Hotel between the 29th to the 31st of October 2019.

The MSE2019 is a joint initiative of thirty-six EU funded R&D projects supported by the DG HOME of the European Commission (EC), the Community of Users (CoU) of Security Research, the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations (EARTO) and the European Network of Law Enforcement Technology Services (ENLETS).

This event aims to limit the gap between science, policy making and practice in the field of security and give the opportunity to communicate the results of the EU-funded research in a variety of security topics (in context of the Societal Challenge Secure Societies of H2020), to present and demonstrate innovative practices, methodologies and technologies and promote further international collaboration among security stakeholders in EU.

The MSE2019 program is organized in 6 sessions as follows:

  • European Initiatives on Security and Networks of Practitioners
  • Protection of Critical Infrastructure and Public Spaces
  • EU Border and External Security
  • Disaster management and Resilience
  • Fight Against Crime & Terrorism
  • Cyber and Digital Security

More than two hundred attendees from almost all the EU member states have embraced this initiative and will actively participate representing security professionals and experts, researchers, academics, practitioners and industry stakeholders. This audience will have the opportunity to attend keynote speeches and projects’ presentations organized in thematic sessions, participate in plenary and parallel sessions, be informed on security research findings, join panel sessions, focused workshops and live demos of security solutions. Current challenges and future opportunities will be thoroughly discussed throughout this three-day event.

MSE2019 has identified the need for a trust-based, multilateral and cross-sectoral cooperation among the community of Security R&D stakeholders in the European Union. Thus, it is not just a large security research showcase but rather an interactive meeting place of an international community to address new security aspects and emerging threats by integrating the experience of the operational actors with the expertise of the professionals and the knowledge of research and academia.

MSE2019 is honored to confirm the presence of a number of policy makers from DG for Migration and Home affairs (DG Home), the Research Executive Agency (REA), Joint Research Center (JRC), EUROPOL, European Union Agency for Cybersecurity – ENISA and the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX). Hence, the event will ensure the linkage between science, policy making and practice.
